How to Properly Dose Edibles
Edibles have been gaining traction since the Counterculture Era of the 1970s. Today, edibles can be purchased from a dispensary or even carefully made at home. However, similar to traditional medication, consumers are unsure of how to properly dose edibles. A cliche stoner film troupe is the overindulgence of edibles. There is always someone who does not adhere to the recommended serving and instead downs the entire brownie. By the next scene, the consumer gets way too medicated, leading to a foolish social decision (such as defecating in the bunker on a public golf course.) So to avoid social faux pas such as these, let's take a look at understanding how to dose edibles properly.
Common Doses of THC in Edibles
For consumers who rarely partake in consuming cannabis, any amount between 1 to 2.5 milligrams of THC is all that is needed. For consumers who suffer from ailments such as social anxiety, insomnia, or are in search of a more euphoric experience from cannabis, any amount between 2.5 to 15 milligrams is recommended. Individuals who are more seasoned with consuming cannabis, any amount between 15 and 30 milligrams, is all that is needed. This dose will be more euphoric as well as increase the duration of the effects associated with the consumption of cannabis. Finally, for those who have a significantly intense tolerance to THC (i.e., 'stoners,') an amount between 30 and 50 milligrams is advised. If you can moderate your level of cannabis consumption, the symptoms of consuming too much THC can be avoided in its entirety. Now, let's break down what each amount feels like for cannabis consumers.
1 - 2.5mg of THC
The initial serving of THC is about 1 to 2.5 mg of THC. This is the recommended amount for first-time cannabis consumers (smoking or eating). This amount is also reserved for individuals who are into microdosing. Microdosing is a way of indulgence that theorizes by ingesting small amounts; the consumer can obtain the effects of edibles with little-to-no adverse effects. Moreover, this method is a solid way to keep a consumer's tolerance at the desired level. If you are looking for a mellow, short-lived edible experience, consider consuming 1 to 2.5 mg of THC. Think of this as the 'rare' or 'bleu' of the edible dosing chart
2.5 - 15mg of THC
The next step up on the edible consumption chain is 2.5 to 15 mg of THC. This range is often associated with packaged edibles sold at dispensaries. For example, most Colorado edible products recommend 10 mg of THC as a 'single serving.' However, many cannabis consumers will tell you that this could still be too much THC to metabolize at once. Consuming this amount of THC via edibles can be less mellow and a bit more intense. Moreover, it will take longer to metabolize depending on factors such as weight, height, and even gender. Consider 2.5 - 15 mg of THC to be our 'medium rare' on our edible consumption guide.
15 - 30mg of THC
The next level is 15 to 30 mg of THC. This amount of THC can be very intense. Often this amount is reserved for seasoned veterans. There is no mellow here; the effects associated with this level are intense and borderline euphoric. This is our 'medium well' level of THC consumption.
30+mg of THC
Lastly, some individuals choose to consume 30 or more mg of THC via edibles. This level, despite bodily factors, will grant you an intense, euphoric, and hallucinogenic effects. As you may have guessed, those who chose to consume 30 or more mg of THC are well done and fully baked.
